Health and Safety Policy


General Statement of policy

It is the policy of Charlton Brook Limited to comply with the terms of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, The Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999 and subsequent legislation and to provide and maintain a healthy and safe working environment. Charlton Brook Limited Health and Safety objective is to minimise the number of instances of occupational accidents and illnesses and ultimately to achieve an accident-free workplace.

All employees will be provided with such equipment, information, training and supervision as is necessary to implement the policy and achieve the stated objective.

Charlton Brook Limited recognise and accept their duty to protect the health and safety of all visitors to the company, including contractors and temporary workers, as well as any members of the public who might be affected by our operations.

While the management of Charlton Brook Limited will do all that is within its powers to ensure the health and safety of its employees, it is recognised that health and safety at work is the responsibility of each and every individual associated with the company. It is the duty of each employee to take reasonable care of their own and other people's welfare and to report any situation which may pose a threat to the well being of any other person.

The management of Charlton Brook Limited will provide every employee with the training necessary to carry out their tasks safely. However if an employee is unsure how to perform a certain task or feels it would be dangerous to perform a specific job then it is the employee's duty to report this to their manager or Chris Morton. An effective health and safety programme requires continuous communication between workers at all levels. It is therefore every worker's responsibility to report immediately any situation which could jeopardise the well being of themselves or any other person.

All injuries, however small, sustained by a person at work must be reported to their manager or Chris Morton. Accident records are crucial to the effective monitoring and revision of the policy and must therefore be accurate and comprehensive.

Charlton Brook Limited Health and Safety policy will be continually monitored and updated, particularly when changes in the scale and nature of our operations occur. The policy will be updated at least every 12 months.

The specific arrangements for the implementation of the policy and the personnel responsible are detailed below.

The requirements of the Environment Protection act 1990 shall be strictly complied with any effects on local environment, due to construction operations, will be monitored and controlled where reasonably practicable.

To comply with the common law and statutory duties, the Company has arranged insurance liability for death, injury and /or disease suffered by any of its employees arising out of and in the course of employment.

In accordance with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, the Company has instituted a system for reporting accidents, and dangerous occurrences to the HSE. An accident book will be kept and any accident will be recorded. The Company will comply with all Statutory Legislation.

The Management, Staff, Employees, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers will be given a copy of the Company's Health and Safety Policy. On acceptance of this policy they will accept its contractual requirements.

It is the policy of Charlton Brook Ltd to promote and maintain the highest standard of environment, health and safety standards by providing:

- Adequate resources for training

- Method Statement and Risk Assessments

- Welfare and Medical facilities

- Personal Protective Equipment

- Suitable Plant that is serviced and maintained

- Safe Systems of Work

- The Company will engage a qualified Health and Safety Adviser

- Take measures to protect the public

- Hold regular tool-box talks and method statement briefings

- COSHH and Product Data, CHIPS information

Charlton Brook Ltd expects all suppliers and employees to operate to the highest standards of Health Safety and Environment.

By regular site monitoring the Company can identify its strengths and weaknesses and if required improvements will be made by the management. All operatives and suppliers will be encouraged by the company to improve their knowledge of Health Safety and Environment.

Environmental Policy Statement

Charlton Brook is a specialist company that appreciates and understands the needs for environment protection. All employees and suppliers will be closely monitored and supervised to ensure that all works and materials supplied conform to environmental legislation.

We recognise our Duty of Care under the Environment Protection Act 1990 (Section 34) and any hazardous waste will be disposed of in the correct manner. Charlton Brook Ltd will co-operate with all statutory bodies and ensure that the company's policy is strictly adhered to.

All environmental violations must be reported immediately to the site supervisor. Fuel omissions are controlled and kept to the legal requirements, all plant and motorised vehicles are serviced on a regular basis.

Before any hazardous materials are used COSHH and Risk Assessments will be produced and a method statement will be provided for the disposal of any waste or packaging. Charlton Brook Ltd will strictly comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous To Health Regulations 1999 (as amended)
